Could you get involved with either James and/or Alex, two veteran 9others folks, in the new year…?
Not all those who wander are lost
James Bridgman first came to a meal with 9others as part of the the Digital Shoreditch festival way back in 2013.
A NED, angel investor, and specialist in brand and marketing strategy for scale-ups (see the framework he uses here), James has recently finished at a global fintech and is currently 'wandering'.
James reached out to ask a question to the 9others community:
“Who do you know with a difficult branding or marketing challenge I could help?”
So if you have a chunky challenge that you think James could tackle with please reach out. This doesn't have to be a paid gig (although we’re sure he’d appreciate it!) and ideally will be for a B2B scale-up looking for new ideas or a punchier strategy.

Protecting older family members from scams
Alex Somervell met and was mentored by Katie back in 2015 when he started a company to inspire children to learn languages through stories. He then met Matthew in 2019, who made the smart decision to not invest in that company, One Third Stories (Alex's words, not Matthew's!1).
Alex is now building a platform to protect the elderly from being scammed. His dad lost most of his life savings in 2019. That was £150,000 gone in three scams over four months and in just nine individual transactions.
Therefore Alex wondered:
“Has this affected you or someone you know? Would you like to be an alpha user to test an alert system?”
Alex is building a system whereby you and your elderly family member get a text message when a transaction that meets a certain suspicious criteria is met.

I’ve left this in but Alex is being rather self-deprecating — Alex exited One Third Stories this year so credit where it’s due!
