One more thing, especially for today...
Katie and I meet hundreds of entrepreneurs via 9others. It’s an utter privilege to be amongst so many amazing and smart people changing the world.
One of those people is Matthew Steans (or ‘Steans’ as we call him to avoid any confusion). Today is World Suicide Prevention Day so Katie and I want to share something that Steans is doing…
Stigma Statistics
Having witnessed a suicide and then losing another friend to suicide shortly after, Steans was determined to do something about the pain and suffering caused to friends and family. So in 2018 he founded Stigma Statistics.
Stigma Statistics is a social enterprise that is mapping global suicide data in real time to enable more timely support for the bereaved. What that real time data can do is give better intervention and prevention strategies and support for those affected by suicide.
Pursuing Prevention
Today, for World Suicide Prevention Day, Steans has launched Pursuing Prevention.
In 2019, there were 5,691 suicides in England & Wales. The Pursuing Prevention plan is for supporters to run, walk, bike or swim 1km per death (5,691km) to raise money for suicide prevention.
