A trusted network is something no entrepreneur should be without.
Looking for growth?
Startup founders are looking for growth, right?
Revenue growth, personal growth, cultural growth, network (net worth) growth.
Well, now there’s a political movement for growth, which is all about pro-growth bills, championing startups & optimists and encouraging builders to build.
Looking For Growth (LFG) was started by Dr Lawrence Newport and Joe Reeve towards the end of last year and has had some good momentum so far, not least being supported by the editorial of The Times, here.
Lawrence & Joe’s first proposed Bill is the ‘National Priority Infrastructure Bill’. You can read the summary here and the whole thing here.
What’s the crux of it?
Essentially, planning and energy. Get the planning system in shape and the firms can build the right stuff quicker.
Plan and build:
Nuclear power stations.
Power lines.
Data centres.
And focus on speed. The Bill says that consent on building the much needed infrastructure should be given priority, have limits on the (seemingly endless current) legal challenges and still be sensible when it comes to protecting the stunning parts of the country such as National Parks, World Heritage Sites, ancient woodland and high-grade agricultural land.
Sounds good.
And now there’s merch
Founders are builders and I reckon this fast-paced, get-stuff-done mindset comes naturally—the downside of that is that we often just crack on regardless of what’s going on around us. Things are tough at the best of times for founders and of course we have to focus.
So while we have to keep the main thing the main thing, LFG *is* part of the main thing, and you can support Lawrence and Joe in various ways:
Donate some money towards their campaigns here.
Read the whole ‘National Priority Infrastructure Bill’ here (and there’s a link to send a physical copy… …to your MP, for example).
Sign up for a dinner, here.
Set up or support a local chapter, here.
Chord struck?
If that resonates then please get involved. There isn’t a magic wand but I wanted to take a step to support LFG so I just ordered a t-shirt and mug this afternoon, here, and that prompted this post (yeah, I’m a sucker for merch, I know).
Beyond the above please share the LFG work, this post and keep checking in on X.
All big things started small, because they had growth. And if you want things to change you’re going to have to build the future.
Or you can just leave it to chance.
Thanks for reading,
