Network News: Get out for a Walkabout
A trusted network is something no entrepreneur should be without

Yomping → Walkabouting
Ben Brabyn is a fintech entrepreneur, investment banker and ecosystem builder. He was CEO of Level39 for over four years and back in 2001 he founded & built a B2B crowdfunding business and sold it in 2010. And before all that he was an officer in the Royal Marines Commandos. So when he does something he takes it seriously (while having a lot of fun) and people tend to take notice.
He also goes Walkabout…
That started with a conversation and an idea in 2023 in London. Working habits had changed, there was lots of WFH and not as much walking & talking. So Ben thought it would be a good idea to get out for a Walkabout and it has been rapidly spreading around the UK and the world since.
Simple, life-changing stuff
The format is simple — a gentle hour-long walk followed by an optional drink. There are monthly Walkabouts in 25 UK towns and cities, all are welcome, and Walkabouts are free.
Each Walkabout is hosted by a volunteer, including 9others host Katie Muldoon who hosts Walkabout in Cheltenham - which you can join here.
“Walkabout changed my life”
Joe MacDonald
A bit like a meal with 9others, you never know quite what’s going to happen with whom and when, but it works. Joe MacDonald founded Scoutd earlier in 2025 and raised £300,000 investment as a direct result of a Walkabout conversation.
Walkabout is an effective accelerator for startups and career changers as well as a useful tool for people who are looking for some fresh air and fresh perspectives.
Make the investment
When people join — or host — a Walkabout they're investing into their local community as well as each other. Each month the Walkabout team circulates some wicked challenges — some are pro-bono and others commercial — so you could find yourself helping solve a major public health issue like boosting diagnosis rates for key diseases, or winning a reward for finding a novel technology application.
Sounds good? Get involved…
In London?
Many things claim this, but Walkabout really couldn’t be easier to get involved in.
In London Ben heads to the Goddess Diana statue by Green Park Tube Station and meets the others at 5pm every fourth Tuesday of the month (except December).
If you’re in town please go along and join in.
And bring a +1.

Around the UK, the world?
As well as London, Walkabouts regularly happen in Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Exeter, St Albans, Leamington Spa and Winchester, and more are being added every month.
